The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, underlined the will to boost and consolidate business relations between Spain and Iraq, and assured that his country wishes to “take advantage of the long experience and successful model of Spanish companies” and establish a strategic partnership, during the business meeting organized on the occasion of his visit to Spain last Friday.
The Iraqi Prime Minister also expressed his government’s interest in increasing the presence of Spanish companies in “priority” sectors such as pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, construction, agriculture, food, renewables and water: “There are investment opportunities in all sectors,” he said during his speech at the business meeting organized by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce.
Al Sudani explained that, having “overcome the battle against terrorism”, his country has moved towards a free market economy that offers legal and financial security. “We are a unique democratic regime in the region; with a social, multicultural, and multi-religious pact,” he assured, detailing the reforms carried out to diversify the economy and take advantage of its resources and good geographical location.
Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani also stressed the importance of the ‘Development Road Project’, which will connect Iraq to Europe via Turkey, and would become a trade route “less expensive and faster than the Suez Canal”.
