Romania reiterates its commitment to EU, NATO and Ukraine

The Diplomat “Romania will continue to contribute to European and allied security,” said yesterday the Chargé d'Affaires of its Embassy in Spain, Raluca Mihaila, during the reception she hosted to commemorate Romania's National Day. Mihaila stressed that her country will continue “for as long as it is necessary to give strong support to Ukraine and its citizens as part of its constructive engagement in the consolidation of security in the Black Sea area and NATO's eastern flank”. “Moreover,” she added, ”our foreign policy will remain firmly anchored in its support for the European perspective of our Eastern neighbors, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as partners in the Western Balkans.” “Romania and Spain could not choose any other path than that of support for the Ukrainian nation, which is suffering from an illegal and unjustified aggression,” she continued after showing ”our deep appreciation to the Spanish authorities, who have proven to understand the importance of strengthening the Eastern flank of the Alliance.” In the framework of what she described as “the privileged relationship between our country and the Kingdom of Spain”, Raluca Mihaila referred to the historical record of bilateral trade in 2023 (6.5 billion Euros) and to the “remarkable positive impact that the important Romanian community in Spain, as well as the highly appreciated Spanish community in Romania, have in all areas”. In this regard, she made special mention of the recent visit to Madrid of the Romanian Minister of Labour, during which a new memorandum of understanding was signed in the field of the social economy”. For this reason, the head of the Romanian Mission in Spain called for “continuing to strengthen political and economic dialogue both bilaterally and in our European coordination”. Finally, she regretted “the loss of so many human lives, including nine Romanian citizens” as a result of the catastrophic DANA that devastated many areas of the Spanish Levant: “In the face of so much misfortune, we have also witnessed an important lesson in empathy and unity on the part of the Romanian people”. The Romanian Embassy presented to the guests the performance of soprano Anita Hartig and pianist Mihaela Duma, who were amazed by their vocal beauty and musical quality.
