In the framework of the second edition of Green Autumn and in collaboration with the Causa Gallery, the Instituto Francés of Madrid presents in its Galerie du 10 until next 31 January 2025 a solo exhibition Circa 0, by the painter Matthieu Pommier.
The exhibition, curated by Manuela Medina, will offer a mural fresco made in situ that will cover the entire Galerie du 10.
Matthieu Pommier’s work focuses on the relationship between man, machine and nature. Man, as «foreign body», embodies a passing presence placed on the same level as the objects and constructions that surround him. The nature, immense and abstract, gives an glimpse of admiring lyricism. In his work, the barrier between the visible and the invisible disappears, transforming the figurative into a dreamlike, almost metaphysical vision of the reality that surrounds us.
Circa 0 alludes to the idea of a starting point, an unstable equilibrium in the sense that 0 may suggest a return to an initial state, a reconsideration of temporal referents. Near the beginning of one cycle, at the end of another. At the starting point, as a symbol of emptiness or of a beginning.
Matthieu Pommier, also known under the pseudonym Matth Velvet, began painting murals in the early 2000s in western France. From the very beginning, the maritime and industrial universe with which he was in contact profoundly influenced his early artistic research. The harbour life and the landscape of the Atlantic left a visible mark on his work, which evolved from these references.
