Until the next 8 February and on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Marcello Mastroianni, the Instituto Italiano de Cultura in Madrid presents in its exhibition spaces the photographic exhibition The look of Marcello, curated by Daniele Luxardo.

The exhibition consists of 60 photographs in black and white and color, all large format, from the photographic archive Luxardo and other important Italian and foreign archives, selected from hundreds of images, After a long process of research and photographic documentation, to show the best of the available repertoire of the most important Italian actor.

The images on display cover some of the stages in Mastroianni’s extraordinary career, starting with his first performance alongside what would become his most beloved stage partner, the very young Sofia Loren in the film La bella Mugnaia (1955) of Mario Camerini, to his famous collaborations with directors like Vittorio De Sica, in the films Ieri Oggi e Domani and Matrimonio all’Italiana, Mauro Bolognini, together with a splendid Claudia Cardinale, in Il Bell’Antonio, and then with Federico Fellini, in La Dolce Vita, 81⁄2 and Ginger and Fred.

The exhibition devotes special attention to the unique bond between Mastroianni and Fellini, exploring their artistic relationship that marked a time in Italian cinema.

The exhibition concludes with a portrait of Marcello Mastroianni in the last years of his career, characterized by greater maturity and reflection. During this period, the actor is immersed in complex roles, collaborating with important directors such as Lattuada, Cavani and Scola. Mastroianni interprets very different characters, but united by his extraordinary interpretative ability and his unmistakable style.
