Eduardo González

The Spanish embassy in Kyiv has decided to close its activity this Wednesday due to the risk of Russian airstrikes throughout Ukraine.
According to the Efe agency and confirmed by Foreign Affairs sources to The Diplomat, the Embassy has sent an email to Spanish residents in Ukraine to inform them that it will not provide its services this Wednesday due to the “increased risk of airstrikes throughout Ukraine” and to recommend that they “take extreme security measures, comply with all recommendations from local authorities, and always locate a shelter.” Official sources from the Foreign Ministry have also told The Diplomat that "for security reasons, the staff of the Spanish Embassy in Kyiv remains operational by teleworking and will return to in-person mode as soon as the alert is over." The Embassy has taken this decision after the United States has decided to close its representation in Kyiv after receiving information about a possible airstrike by Russian forces in the Ukrainian capital. “The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv received specific information of a possible significant airstrike on November 20,” the U.S. Department of State’s Consular Affairs announced on social media site X. “The Embassy will remain closed and recommends that U.S. citizens be prepared to take immediate shelter in place should an airstrike alert be announced,” it added.
