The exhibition “Queer Cinema Taiwan: Opening Paths to Freedom”, which began last November 14, in collaboration with the LESGAICINEMAD Festival, will continue throughout this week screening films by renowned Taiwanese directors in different theaters in the city.
Taiwan, a pioneer in LGTBIQ+ rights, is the first country in Asia to legalize equal marriage, giving rise to a large film industry with internationally renowned filmmakers who address this social reality.
At the opening ceremony, the director of the Taiwan Cultural Division in Spain, Augusta Chang, presented the film series, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan through the Economic and Cultural Office of Taipei. She was accompanied by the filmmaker Huang Hui-Chen and the festival coordinator Miguel Lafuente, who highlighted the audiovisual selection that will be shown in the coming days during the film series and that includes figures such as Ang Lee, Tsai Ming Liang, Zero Chou, Huan Hui-Chen, Yi-Hsuan Su or the recent winners of the Silver Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival, Tzu Hui Peng and Ping Wen Wang.
