Eduardo González King Felipe VI spoke this Friday at the plenary session of the XXIX Ibero-American Summit, in which he encouraged the member states, “in the face of the discrepancies that may arise, natural in such a rich and long-standing relationship”, to “know how to overcome differences” because “there is much more that unites us than what separates us”. “With each Ibero-American meeting we respond to the mandate and the will of our peoples, linked by an intense relationship, encouraged by mobility, joint projects, life in common. “Together we make Ibero-America,” said the Monarch before the plenary session of the Summit. “The Ibero-American Summits can boast a history of more than three decades of concrete, tangible results, with a direct impact on the lives of our citizens,” continued the Monarch. “We have built consensus that we must preserve, with advances in equality, solidarity and sustainability,” he added. “In the face of the discrepancies that may arise, natural in such a rich and long-standing relationship, let us remember that there is much more that unites us than separates us, and that our greatness as a community consists in knowing how to overcome differences, continue to nourish our heritage, and advance in our principles and convictions,” he said. “With this spirit very much in mind, Spain is grateful for the unanimous support of all member countries to host the XXX Summit,” said Felipe VII. “We will exercise this high responsibility with the conviction of someone who deeply believes in the path taken, but is also aware of how much remains to be done,” he continued. “In these dizzying times that we are living in, of great complexity for multilateralism, it is when we most need to redouble our efforts and not give up on our efforts to continue working to consolidate and strengthen the system, to deepen its scope and ambition,” concluded the King, who, before his speech at the plenary, held a bilateral meeting with the President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa. Albares In the same sense as the King, José Manuel Albares asked during his speech in the plenary that the countries of the Ibero-American community make “an effort to dilute the differences that may separate us”. “The summits are a space for dialogue and identity based on mutual respect that we must preserve”, said the minister. For this reason, he urged the attendees to make “an effort to dilute differences that may affect us” and to work “for the prosperity that we all long for for our community of countries”. “Today, more than ever, it is necessary to create these spaces where, based on mutual respect, we speak to each other as equals and find solutions to the problems that affect the daily lives of our citizens and the exercise of their fundamental rights,” he continued. Albares also expressed Spain's desire to “open a stage aimed at consolidating this system, identifying new priorities and reorganizing working methods” during the next Ibero-American Summit in 2026, which will be held in our country. To this end, he added, Spain is willing to “listen to all States,” because “together we must deepen our complementarities, so that new shared opportunities can emerge.” On the margins of the Summit, Albares held a meeting with the Ibero-American Secretary General (SEGIB), Andrés Allamand, with whom he signed the minutes for the ratification of the Talent Circulation Agreement.
