On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the European Nuclear Research Centre (CERN), tomorrow at 7 pm in the auditorium of the Fundación Ramón Areces (calle Vitrubio, 5) will take place the conference on Life and Matter Sciences, Manuel Aguilar Benítez de Lugo, from the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT).
This conference will describe the most important scientific and technological milestones of CERN (European Nuclear Research Centre or European Laboratory for Elementary Particle Physics), based in Geneva (Switzerland), created in 1954. This laboratory is the world’s largest Basic Research Centre. CERN is an organization with 24 Member States, has an annual budget of approximately €1.5 billion, a staff of about 2,700 people, 900 fellows, invited scientists and some 14,000 external users from over 100 nationalities.
Elementary Particle Physics is the scientific discipline that studies the properties of the ultimate constituents of matter and the fundamental forces through which they interact, and the laws that govern the evolution of the Universe. Its objectives are to expand the frontiers of knowledge, to broaden the technological frontiers, to educate and train tomorrow’s scientists, technicians and engineers, and to bring nations together through science.
The auditorium is equipped with a magnetic loop system. Attendance is free until capacity is reached. Prior online registration is required at this link. And you can follow it through the Foundation’s YouTube channel.
