In a context of deafening war in the Middle East and Israeli bombing in several cities in Lebanon, on Friday 8 November at 8pm, Casa Árabe de Madrid presents the Lebanese singer-songwriter of electronic music Nâr in concert. Who is performing for the first time in Madrid.
Nadia Daou as Nâr, a multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer from Beirut, who arrives at Casa Árabe with a deeply immersive and experimental musical proposal.
His music, described as a repetition of sound mantras, reflects the chaos and beauty of Beirut, where industrial noise is mixed with moments of almost spiritual peace. In a constant metamorphosis, he works with various instruments, his voice and different objects that he finds. Abrasive and hypnotic, Nâr’s performances are sound experiments and live improvisations built from start to finish, often guided by short phrases that repeat as mantras. His music has roots in a very wide spectrum of sounds, inspirations and genres, such as Middle Eastern music, North African trance, industrial music and electronics.
Since October 7, the artist has been putting great effort into confronting her audience with what is happening in the Middle East, raising numerous questions about the importance and true meaning of solidarity and resistance. At the end of the performance, there will be a meeting with the public, in English with consecutive translation, moderated by Karim Hauser, coordinator of Cultural Programs of Casa Árabe.
