George Bologan becomes the first ambassador of the Catholic religion from Romania to the Vatican. The new Romanian diplomatic representative previously held various positions in Italy, where he was ambassador until his appointment to Spain. Between 1995 and 2003 he was a journalist accredited to the Press Office of the Holy See for the television channel Telepace. He was then Cultural Attaché and Head of the Romanian Community at the Romanian Embassy in Rome, and later Consul General in Milan, before taking charge of the Embassy in Italy.
