The Auditorium Palma de Mallorca (Av. de Gabriel Roca, 18) hosts next Thursday, November 7 at 8 pm to the National Ballet of Albania, which will perform the work Giselle, as part of the Auditorium Dance Cycle – Air Europa 2024. Tickets can be purchased at this link.

Giselle is a jewel in the world’s classical repertoire, a ballet that has captured hearts since its premiere in Paris in 1841. With the moving music of Adolphe Adam and the sublime choreography of Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, this masterpiece continues to amaze on stage around the world. The plot immerses the viewer in the life of Giselle, a young peasant girl who falls madly in love with the mysterious Count Albrecht, who presents himself disguised as a villager to win her love. Despite warnings about Albrecht’s true identity, Giselle trusts him blindly. However, when the raw truth is revealed, Giselle, with her heart broken, loses reason and succumbs to death.

In the second act, the ballet takes on a supernatural tone. Giselle returns as a spectre, joining the “Willis”, spirits of betrayed maidens who seek revenge against the men who have harmed them. But even in death, Giselle’s love for Albrecht endures. With unwavering loyalty, she fights to protect him from the fury of the Willis, who wish to drag him to his fatal fate.

Giselle is famous not only for her moving story of love and sacrifice, but also for her dazzling pas de deux and the demanding technique required for the lead role. The dancer who plays Giselle must show a perfect combination of flawless technique and ethereal grace. This work continues to be a poignant testimony of the eternal struggle between love and betrayal, life and death.
