The Colegio Mayor Nuestra Señora de África in Madrid (c/ Ramírez de Maeztu, 8, Ciudad Universitaria), will host on Monday 28 October at 7 p.m., the conference 125 years after the end of the Spanish political presence in Asia and Oceania (1898-99), which will be given by Rafael Rodríguez-Ponga, president of the Spanish Association of Studies on the Pacific (AEEP) and rector of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU, where he is a professor in the fields of education and journalism.
In fact, Spanish sovereignty over five territories of Asia and Oceania ended in 1898 and 1899: the Philippines, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, the Palau Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia. What does this sovereignty look like 125 years later? The act will be presented by the director of the Colegio Mayor, José Ramón Guerrero.
