Expressing a resolute “commitment to deepening foreign relations with Indonesia’s partners” and explicit support for Palestine, Indonesia’s new president, Prabowo Subianto, was sworn in for the 2024-2029 term, the Indonesian Embassy reports in a statement.
“We chose the path of friendship with all countries,” said the new president, who insisted throughout that ”Indonesia will pursue a foreign policy as a country that wants to be a good neighbour. We want to be a good neighbour”.
President Prabowo Subianto addressed during his first speech other issues, such as commitments to eradicate corruption and poverty, strengthen food and energy security and commodity processing.
During the ceremony held at the Jakarta Parliamentary Complex on Sunday, he was also sworn in as the new Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
The ceremony was attended by 35 representatives from partner countries, including the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Hassanal Bolkiah; Philippine President Pangulo Ng; and the Prime Ministers of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim; Singapore, Lawrence Wong; Serbia, Milos Vucevic; Cambodia, Hun Manet; and South Korea, Han Duk-Sou.
Also in attendance were the vice presidents of Laos, Pany Yathotou; Vietnam, Võ Thị Ánh Xuân; and China, Han Zheng; the prime ministers of Papua New Guinea, James Marape; Vanuatu, Charlot Salwai Tabimasmas; Solomon Islands, Jeremiah Manele; and the deputy prime ministers of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul; Australia, Richard Marles; and New Zealand, Winston Raymond Peters.
Also represented at the inauguration were the governments of Qatar, Russia, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Japan, the United States, India, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt and Germany.
