The Diplomat

Samil Nepal will be the new ambassador of Nepal in Spain, replacing Sarmila Parajuli, who held the position for the last two years, and who left our country last summer.
The appointment of Samil Nepal was approved by the Parliamentary Hearings Committee of Nepal, along with that of fifteen other new ambassadors, within a process of changes in Nepalese diplomatic representations in the world. Samil Nepal will be the fourth ambassador in Spain of Nepal, which opened an embassy in Madrid in April 2018, and which has changed its diplomatic representative quite frequently, as a result of the political changes in the country. The new ambassador had been appointed to head the Nepalese Embassy in Portugal in December 2023, but ultimately did not take up the post, due to political tensions in Nepal. The Nepalese government hopes that the appointment of the new ambassador will contribute to improving bilateral ties with Spain, boosting tourism and promoting economic cooperation. In his first statements to Nepalese media, Samir Nepal said that one of his objectives in Madrid will be to bring Spanish football players to Nepal and promote that players from his country come to Spain to train. He added that he will work with Spanish clubs to help develop football in Nepal. Spain does not have a resident ambassador in Nepal, where the ambassador to India is currently accredited, who is currently Juan Antonio March. Our country has an honorary consulate in Kathmandu, headed by Ambica Srestha.
