Government allocates 1.5 million euros for Spaniards without resources evacuated from Lebanon

Eduardo González The Government is going to allocate one million euros to the care of people of Spanish nationality evacuated from Lebanon who lack resources or are in a vulnerable situation. The Secretary of State for Migration, Pilar Cancela, has signed a declaration of emergency authorising the urgent contracting of accommodation and all services related to its management and transport, as well as the acquisition of the necessary goods to allow the adequate provision of humanitarian aid. The Secretary of State for Migration, through the General Directorate of Spanish Citizenship Abroad and Return Policies, has taken charge of these people - evacuated thanks to the device promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of the Ministry of Defence - as the competent body for the social integration of returned Spanish citizens. The aid is aimed at people who, upon arriving in Spain, do not have a home of residence that can serve as a territorial base for the regional and local powers in matters of social assistance. The General Directorate of Spanish Citizenship Abroad and Return Policies has already taken in, for the moment, 74 people, a figure that could increase in the near future. The programme is similar to the one that was launched almost a year ago with Spanish citizens and their families from Gaza. Specifically, the aforementioned Directorate General has extended until December 31 the emergency declaration signed by the State Secretariat for Migration on January 12 of this year to assist Spanish nationals from Gaza who lacked resources. Currently, from the initial 119 people, 97 have been assisted, who are still in a situation of special vulnerability. In this way, and with the charge of this declaration, which will entail a disbursement of 567,152 euros by the Secretary of State for Migration, these families will be assisted in the remaining months of 2024. On the other hand, the team of the General Directorate and the Association of the Spanish Catholic Commission for Migration (Accem) are working individually with each family unit to find resources that guarantee basic needs, if necessary, beyond December 31.
