Tomorrow, Sunday at 11 am, the Embassy of Pakistan presents in the Cine Paz de Madrid (calle Fuencarral, 125) the screening of the Pakistani films The Glassworker, directed by Usman Riaz, and The Silence After the Storm, by Alina Rizwan.
In the first one, The Glasssworker, the story follows young Vincent and his father Tomas as they search for a glass workshop around town. They fear an imminent war in which they do not want to participate. The arrival of a colonel and his daughter Alliz, a young and talented violinist, shakes their reality and tests the relationship between father and son.
Usman Riaz is a Pakistani animation technician and filmmaker. In 2015 he founded Mano Animation Studios. He won international recognition for creating The Glassworker, the first fully hand-drawn Pakistani animated film. Riaz’s idea for this film was to introduce traditional, high-quality animation into the Pakistani film industry. Through Mano Animation Studios, it seeks to foster a new generation of artists and highlight Pakistan’s potential in the global animation scene.
The Silence After the Storm is a short documentary by Alina Rizwan that focuses on the life of a boy in Sindh, Pakistan, after devastating floods. The film highlights how the floods turned classrooms into rivers, although the boy’s resistance leads him to continue his education despite these challenges. Reflects the extensive impact of climate change on everyday life.
Alina Rizwan is a freelance documentary filmmaker based in Karachi. She made her directorial debut in 2023 with The Silence After the Storm, a documentary highlighting the impact of climate change in Pakistan. Rizwan’s short films have been recognized as one of his early works -Vochan- which was selected for international film festivals such as the UK Asian Film Festival. Their goal is to make known untold stories through their documentaries.
At the end of the screenings, a panel discussion will be held with specialists in Pakistani cinema, with the presence of Ambassador Zahoor Ahmed. The design, photo editing and summaries of the information materials on these projections were done by Irene Bermúdez.
