Madrid Sinfónica Décimo Arte opens its new season with an exceptional concert at the Sala Sinfónica of the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid on Sunday, November 3 at 12 o’clock, entitled Resurgir: From Death to Eternal Life.
This event, which will feature the performance of the Orquesta Sinfónica Décima Arte under the baton of young conductor Alberto G. López, marks the first concert of this orchestra’s cycle at the Auditorio Nacional and commemorates All Saints’ Day, as well as the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, offering a transcendent experience that unites music and spirituality.
The programme has been carefully selected to explore the duality between death and eternal life, and features two outstanding works, Gustav Mahler’s Totenfeier, a poignant play that immerses the listener in a deep reflection on life beyond death. Composed in 1888, Totenfeier (Funeral Ceremony) would later become the first movement of Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection”, and guide through pain and the search for redemption.
The Symphony No. 9 in D minor, op. 125, by Ludwig van Beethoven, culminates the concert, an emblematic work that integrates solo voices and chorus in its fourth movement, with the iconic “Hymn to Joy”. This symphony explores a broad emotional spectrum and captures the essence of resurrection and eternal life.
The orchestra will be accompanied by a cast of top-class soloists: Celia Muñoz (soprano), Patricia Illera (mezzo-soprano), Martin Piskorski (tenor) and Marco Stella (baritone). Alongside them, the Semi-circle Choir of the Technical School of Industrial Engineers (UPM), which will provide an essential choral force for the interpretation of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
