The Council of Ministers appoints Jorge Domecq as Spanish ambassador to Greece

The Diplomat The Council of Ministers appointed Jorge Domecq on Tuesday to the position of Spanish ambassador to Greece, where he will replace Carles María Casajuana. A graduate in Law from the University of Seville, Domecq entered the Diplomatic Service in 1985. He has been Spanish ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines (2011-2014) and permanent representative ambassador of Spain to the OSCE (2014-2015) in Vienna. He has also been Executive Director of the European Defence Agency (EDA) in Brussels (2015-2020) and, since 2020, he has been Director of Institutional Relations and Strategy Advisor at Airbus Spain. Previously, he held the positions of Director General of the United Nations, Global Affairs and Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (2008-2011), Deputy Director General of the Gibraltar Affairs Office at the same Ministry (2005-2008), member of the Academic Council of the NATO Defence College in Rome (2006-2008), Chief of Staff of the then Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance, Javier Solana (1996-1999), or Executive Advisor to the Minister of Defence (1996). Abroad, he has been posted to the Permanent Representation of Spain to NATO and to the Spanish Embassies in Brasilia, Rome and Rabat. He is the author of numerous articles on political-military and defence issues published in Spanish magazines and a member of the European Leadership Network since 2020. Furthermore, the Council of Ministers appointed four non-resident ambassadors: Ricardo Martínez, current ambassador to Russia, for Armenia; Cristina Latorre, current ambassador to Turkey, for Azerbaijan; Alejandra del Río, current ambassador to Norway, for Iceland; and Luis Francisco Martínez Montes, current ambassador to Kazakhstan, for Kyrgyzstan. Both in Yerevan (Armenia) and Baku (Azerbaijan), as well as in Reykjavik (Iceland), Spain has diplomatic antennas, with a diplomat who acts as interim chargé d'affaires and lives in the country.
