Instituto Francés presents ‘La sinfonía de los monstruos’, by Marc Levy

The Teatro del Instituto Francés de Madrid presents this afternoon at 7 pm La sinfonía de los monstruos, the latest book by the world’s most read francophone novelist, Marc Levy (pictured ©Gérard Harten). Free entry with prior reservation at this link. Event in French with simultaneous translation.

The novel is set in modern-day Ukraine, where the story of a team of web pirates fighting to save a child kidnapped from Russia is revealed. The journalist and bookseller in Amapolas in October, Sara Trejo, will moderate the meeting.

Through a powerful literary style, Marc Levy offers a masterful novel: a great human adventure in the heart of the tumultuous history that is being told before our eyes today.

Veronika is one of those women who does not give up even in the worst moments. One does not choose to be a nurse if she accepts defeat… She has domesticated her loneliness. But taming fear is another thing. One night, on her way home, Veronika discovers that her nine-year-old son has disappeared. Helpless, she and her teenage daughter Lilya try to understand where they have taken Valentyn. They will move heaven and earth until they find the whereabouts of the child, one encouraged by his adolescent recklessness and the other by his determination as a mother. But the enemy is lurking, and Lilya and Veronika will not be able to trust anyone… or almost. Together they will try to disrupt the Symphony of Monsters, a project much more terrifying than fiction. In a journey filled with unforgettable characters, a mother and daughter learn to know and love each other again.

This novel is based on real events. The conservative estimate of the number of Ukrainian children abducted since the large-scale invasion of Ukraine is currently 20,000.
