The opera in three acts Marina is chosen by the Teatro de la Zarzuela of Madrid for the beginning of its new season, which will offer 10 performances from 9 to 20 October.
Throughout the 168 years of history of the Teatro de la Zarzuela (which will be held this coming October), ‘Marina’ -along with ‘El barberillo de Lavapiés’, ‘Jugar con fuego’, ‘La africana»’ or ‘La Gran Vía’ is one of the titles with the greatest presence on this stage. But this piece, which was premiered by Emilio Arrieta in 1871, has by a great difference and as is the case again, starred in more seasonal premieres than any other lyrical work. Undoubtedly, a musical pearl within the Spanish side of the genre.
Marina is a new and dazzling production with stage direction of the always captivating Bárbara Lluch, who so good taste left the audience of this same theater with his montages of ‘La casa de Bernarda Alba’ (2018) and ‘El rey que rabió’ (2021).
For the occasion, in front of the Orchestra of the Community of Madrid (Theatre Holder) will occupy the pit José Miguel Pérez-Sierra (Theatre Master), one of the most cosmopolitan and unanimously celebrated conductors.
The cast that will take the stage with the Titular Choir of the Teatro de la Zarzuela directed by Antonio Fauró, is composed of great international figures such as sopranos Sabina Puértolas and Marina Monzó (the two “Marinas”, secretly in love with the young sailor Jorge), the tenors Ismael Jordi and Celso Albelo (in the role of ship captain Jorge. In turn and also stealthily in love with Marina, both young people see their future jeopardized by half-words and misunderstandings), the baritones Juan Jesús Rodríguez and Pietro Spagnoli (who play the role of Contramaestre Roque, a disillusioned character who uses alcohol as a refuge, and who in the end is the one who intuits the problems and tries to put order in the tangle) or the bass Rubén Amoretti and Javier Castañeda (who are the characters of Pascual, the third in this story of secret loves on the seashore). Also participating in the production of the Rondalla Lírica de Madrid «Manuel Gil» directed by Antonio Ortega. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
