The European Commission’s headquarters in Spain will host next Monday, 7 October at 17:00 the presentation by the Fundación Alternativas of its Report on the state of the EU 2024. Integration vs. nationalism.
The European Union is facing up to unprecedented challenges in its new legislative term. This report examines and analyses some of the most important issues, such as competitiveness and re-industrialization in the face of competition, which are being exhibited by the USA. and China, the transition to a decarbonised Europe, the need for the defensive strengthening of the Union and its external action, the migration issue, the European social pillar or the rule of law.
All this, in a complex geopolitical context that contributes to the structural reforms of renewed institutions such as the European Parliament and the European Commission, where more conservative positions have grown.
Lucas González Ojeda, Director in Functions of the European Commission in Madrid, will welcome the event, with a presentation by Diego López Garrido, executive vice president of the Fundación Alternativas, and a special intervention by Fernando Mariano Sampedro Marcos, Secretary of State for the European Union
The panel will be composed by Elena Muñoz, state coordinator of the Legal Service of the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid CEAR and author of the report; Mercedes Guinea, professor of International Relations at the UCM and member of the CAE of the Fundación Alternativas, and Diego López Garrido, executive vice president of the Fundación Alternativas.
