Tomorrow at 7 pm, the Theatre of Instituto Francés de Madrid will host a literary encounter with writer Dominique Roques, who will present his book El aroma de los bosques El hombre y el árbol, un vínculo milenario (The scent of forests, Man and the tree, a millenary bond). Free entry with prior reservation at this link. Event in Spanish.
In the context of Green Autumn, the Instituto Francés invites the author and essence seeker Dominique Roques, who will evoke the history of the forest and its ecological concerns. Present his latest work, in which he proposes a suggestive journey through the world’s forests to explore the complex link between humans and trees; the boundaries between the wild world and civilization.
Dominique Roques has always been immersed in nature. When he was a lumberjack, in his youth, he lived surrounded by trees; he learned to love them and to be impregnated by their aromas. Then, over more than thirty years as a natural resource seeker for the perfume industry, he has developed a deep awareness about the link between trees and humanity, and how we have deforested our planet.
The author presents an extraordinary journey through the world’s forests to tell the story of this millenary, sublime, tragic and contradictory bond. With great narrative skill, you will discover in this journey, both erudite and poetic, a series of knowledge, curiosities and personal experiences related to trees in different cultures and times. Thus, tell the reader of the cedar of Lebanon that was cut by King Gilgamesh, the forests of European beech and the coalfish trade, the forest of giant sequoias of California, a sanctuary preserving the treasure which survived the most ruthless logging of the last century, the Palo Santo of Paraguay, whose salvation is perhaps in the perfume that emanates from its wonderful blue wood. In The Scent of Forests, Roques states that while man passes through the earth for a brief moment, forests represent eternity; by destroying them, humanity is put in danger.
