The Spanish Government has condemned the Israeli bombing of Beirut and the launching of rockets by Hezbollah against Israel and has called for “restraint” from the parties.
“The exchange of attacks causes innocent victims and seriously threatens the stability of the region and international peace and security,” declared the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release on Friday. “In an extremely tense regional context, restraint is essential to avoid a regional escalation with unforeseeable consequences,” it warned.
“Spain demands that all parties and regional actors refrain from any act that could trigger an even greater outbreak of violence, and calls for the restoration of stability and compliance with all Security Council resolutions,” it concluded.
This past Thursday, the Spanish Government condemned the attacks recorded in recent days with electronic means in Lebanon, directed against Hezbollah militants, and which have left more than thirty dead and thousands wounded. “These indiscriminate attacks are contrary to international humanitarian law and threaten the security and stability of Lebanon, Israel and the entire region,” said the Foreign Ministry, which called for “restraint on the part of all actors” in the region in order to “avoid an even greater escalation of violence and the risk of open war with unforeseeable consequences.”
