Feijóo will go to Rome tomorrow to meet with Meloni

It will be the first formal meeting that the leader of the opposition has with the head of the Italian Government, whose migration policies he has praised on various occasions, stressing, among other things, that Meloni has managed immigration much better than the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. The visit to Meloni takes place almost a week after Feijóo traveled to Athens to meet with the Prime Minister of Greece, Kiryakos Mitsotakis, with the problem of immigration in the background. He also praised the policy of the Greek conservative leader, stating that Greece has implemented a "fair, austere, humanitarian and smooth" migration policy because it has worked on it "with much more rigor than Spain." Tomorrow, the PP leader will have the opportunity to discuss with Meloni his proposal to create a European alliance against illegal immigration. Feijóo wants the European Popular Party to lead this alliance, but as Meloni is not part of the group - her party, Brothers of Italy, is part of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group - it is very possible, according to the sources consulted, that the vice president of the Italian Government, Antonio Tajani, will also be present at the meeting. The former president of the European Parliament belongs to Forza Italia, a party that is part of the European Popular Group. In any case, in addition to migration issues, Feijóo will have the opportunity to speak with Meloni about various issues that affect the European Union and international issues, such as the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine and the crisis in Venezuela. Just yesterday, the Group to which Meloni belongs nominated the Venezuelan opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González for the 2024 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, an initiative that had also been proposed by the European People's Party.
