The Diplomat

His Majesty the King received yesterday, in an event held as is traditional, at the Royal Palace, the Credentials of six new ambassadors, including that of Palestine, Husni Abdel Wahed, after Spain recognized the Palestinian State on May 28, as The Diplomat reported.
This is the first time that a Palestinian ambassador has presented his Credentials to the head of State, since until now, the diplomatic representative in Madrid, at the head of the General Delegation of Palestine, although he had the rank of ambassador, could not participate in this ceremony, with which the ambassadors officially begin their mission. He only went to the Department to present the letter from the Palestinian Authority with his appointment as head of the Mission to the Protocol Services. The presentation of his Credentials to the King is the most visible sign of the decision of the Spanish Government to recognize the Palestinian State, since, in practice, the ambassador enjoyed the same powers as the rest of his colleagues. Husni Abdel Wahed, who arrived in Madrid in March 2022, then had a conversation with Don Felipe, as is usual, after the presentation of the Credentials takes place, and she talked about the situation in Gaza and in other parts of Palestine, and about bilateral relations with Spain. The Palestinian ambassador was the last of the group of six ambassadors to present their Credentials. The ceremony opened with the arrival of the Egyptian ambassador, Ehab Ahmed Badawy, who has been in our country since July, followed by the Qatari ambassador, Salem Mubarak al Shafi, followed by the new Australian ambassador, Rosemary Ann Morris-Castico. Later, the ambassadors of Paraguay, Justo Pastor Apodaca Paredes, and of Peru, Luis Carlos Antonio Ibérico Núñez, presented their Credentials. Finally, the Palestinian ambassador did so. The King then held bilateral meetings with all of them, accompanied by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Xavier Martí, who, for the first time, attended this ceremony as such.
