The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza National, with the collaboration of the Community of Madrid and the support of PRIOR Art Space, presents the twenty-first edition of #VersionaThyssen, the contest that invites young artists between 16 and 35 years old to reinterpret works from their collection.
Until October 13, anyone who wants to participate can share their creation on Instagram, including the hashtags #VersionaThyssen21 and #VersionaThyssen, the mention of @museothyssen, the title of their work and the versionado picture title. Each participant can send as many versions as he wants and thus be eligible for one of the prizes in each competition, ranging from 500 to 1,000 euros and museum perks, and special Prior Art Space awards for artistic residency, Uniqlo Prize for young artists and Thyssen Young Friends Prize.
The six works proposed for this edition are: Risen Christ (circa 1490) by Bramantino; Portrait of a Lady (circa 1530) by Hans Baldung Grien; Christ and the Adulterous Woman (1683) by Aert de Gelder; Veneciana Vendedora de cebollas (1880-1882), by John Singer Sargent; The Downloaders in Arles (1888), by Vincent van Gogh, and Untitled (1922), Wassily Kandinsky © Wassily Kandinksy, VEGAP, Madrid.
The artists Nicolás Villamizar (@condieresis), Carolina Lindberg (@carolinalindberg1) and Núria Tamarit (@nuriatamarit) are invited to participate as prescriptors of this call, as they have already done previously Flavita Banana, Coco Dávez, Rocío Quillahuaman, Lara Lars, Trapalleiro or Hugáceo Crujiente, among others. The three will also be part of the jury that will select the winning works, together with representatives from the museum and the Community of Madrid. The awards ceremony will take place on Friday, October 25 at 9 pm during the museum’s night-time opening.
