From next Wednesday 18 September, the Teatro del Barrio de Madrid(calle Zurita, 20) presents discontinuously (see days in the web in this link) the comic monologue Hoy tengo algo que hacer (Today I have something to do), played by actor Luis Bermejo.
Today I have something to do presents the adventures of a modern hero who, following the great picaresque tradition, leaves home in order to understand what it is like to have an occupation, a thing to do that sustains and organizes any existence.
Far from being an anecdotal or elementary subject, or precisely because of this, it seems to be a very fruitful thing to pay attention to this absolutely universal phenomenon, which permeates and underlies every psyche: the construction of any personality is based on having something to do, each person’s account with respect to the others is sustained by the value and meaning given to the thing to do, and at an even more basic level: the day, the week, the year, They become very long, ask us for filling and structure and direction, we need to hold on to something to do to give meaning and substance.
Having said that, only the clown is able to undertake such a venture with brightness, because its foundational and inherent insubstantiality, his distance from any certainty or security and his inexhaustible curiosity and surprise allows the viewer to enter this research that aspires to reveal honestly and without irony the motivations and occupations that shape the proud and tormented human life.
Through a torrential story, rich in encounters, occurrences and graceful verb, the show aims to display a comic and always poetic feast. To take up the challenge, no one more wise and powerful than the great Luis Bermejo. His evocative capacity, his charm and his comicality are an ideal springboard to embody the exposed. Tickets can be purchased at this link or one hour before the start of the performance at the box office.
