Teatro Real opens season with ‘Adriana Lecouvreur’, by Francesco Cilea
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Teatro Real  deMadrid will open on September 23 its opera season 2024-2025, with Adriana Lecouvreur by Francesco Cilea (1866-1950), which has never been presented on stage, despite the great popularity of this title. This opera will be on the air until October 11.

The opera, one of the most representative of late verdia, will be presented in the already classic production by David McVicar,  which since its premiere at Covent Garden in London in 2010 has been performed in the most important theatres around the world, from the Met in New York, The Scala in Milan and the Staatsoper in Vienna, the Opéra national de Paris or the Liceu in Barcelona.

The McVicar’s staging is a sensitive homage to the world of theatre evoked from within-with its backstage, public, tramoyas, screens or dressing rooms-in an ingenious scenography by Charles Edwards that, together with the spectacular 18th century costumes designed by Brigitte Reiffenstuel, enhance the greatness and fragility of the protagonist, an actress caught between the lights of fame and the shadows of her tragic personal destiny.

In the interpretation of the title role will alternate Ermonela Jaho y Maria Agresta.  They will be joined by Elīna Garanča  (Princess of Bouillon), Brian Jagde (Maurizio)and Nicola Alaimo (Michonnet), in the first cast; and Ksenia Dudnikova, Matthew Polenzani and Manel Esteve, in the second. They will be accompanied by the titulars Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Real, under the direction of Nicola Luisotti, principal guest conductor of the Teatro Real.Tickets can be purchased at this link.
