Albares receives his Haitian counterpart to support the political and social stabilization of the country

The Diplomat The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, yesterday received in Madrid the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cults of the Republic of Haiti, Dominique Dupuy, to whom he expressed Spain's support for the political and social stabilization of her country. According to a press release from the Foreign Ministry, Albares and Dupuy signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Schools of Spain and Haiti during the meeting, which “will allow for the establishment and development of close collaboration through the training of diplomats and the exchange of information, experiences and good practices.” The minister also expressed to Dominique Dupuy his support for the political and social stabilization of Haiti and “Spain's commitment to the security and prosperity of this country, with which we maintain excellent relations.” According to the Foreign Ministry, Spain contributes three million euros to the financing of the Multinational Mission for Security Support, to which must be added the contribution through the European Union, whose mandate is to help the Haitian National Police to restore citizen security in the country and create the conditions conducive to the holding of free and transparent elections. In addition, Albares told his Haitian counterpart that Spanish Cooperation, which dates back to 1991, will continue to support the Haitian people in the recovery of their economic and social growth. Spain's development aid in Haiti currently has projects in progress worth more than 54 million euros, to which must be added more than five million euros in humanitarian aid. Among the most notable actions is the work carried out through the Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation to bring water to the main population centres of the country. Thanks to Spain, according to Foreign Ministry, more than ten percent of the Haitian population has obtained access to drinking water and sanitation.
