The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, spoke yesterday with his Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, with whom he discussed the situation in Palestine and the two-state solution “for definitive peace in the Middle East.”

“I have spoken with my Bahraini counterpart, Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, about our close bilateral relations and the situation in Palestine,” Albares said through his official account on the social network X. “Spain is committed to the two-state solution for definitive peace in the Middle East,” he added.

The telephone conversation took place just days before Madrid hosts a meeting between representatives of European and Arab countries to discuss possible solutions to end the war between Israel and Palestine, The Diplomat learned from reliable sources. The meeting will take place this coming Friday at the level of foreign ministers and several of them, both European and Arab, have confirmed that they will be present.

The meeting is a continuation of the one held for the first time on April 29 in Riyadh, taking advantage of the celebration in the Saudi capital of the World Economic Forum, and which was attended by the ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt, on the Arab side, and several European ministers, including those of Spain, the United Kingdom and Norway, as well as the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell.

Spain is one of the European countries that have recently recognized the Palestinian State, specifically on May 28. According to a recent announcement by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the Executive is preparing to hold a bilateral summit with Palestine in Madrid before the end of the year.
