The Teatro de la Abadía (calle de Fernández de los Ríos, 42) will host a second season of the play Cielos, an adaptation of the text by the prestigious Lebanese writer Wajdi Mouawad, from 11 to 29 September, under the direction of Sergio Peris-Mencheta and produced by Barco Pirata.4
The proposal of the Spanish director, which premiered in 2023, was very well received by the public and sold out before its premiere. Now returns to the room Juan de la Cruz, where he could see then, with a renewed cast composed of faces known as Marta Belmonte, Patxi Freytez, Xoel Fernández, Álvaro Monje, Pedro Rubio and Javier Tolosa.4
This latest installment of Wajdi Mouawad’s tetralogy The Blood of Promise proposes a story of a revolution, in a thriller-style, that seeks to provoke a world social debacle. A group of translators, cryptographers and researchers work against the clock in a remote part of the world to find out where a terrible terrorist attack will take place.4
Cielos shares with the other titles of Mouawad’s tetralogy “the tragedy that drags humanity”. And despite being published in 2008 and premiered in 2009, “in Cielos we see things that have a lot to do with our immediate present. It could be said that it is or was a harbinger of things that are happening to us fifteen years after it was written,” says Sergio Peris-Mencheta about the validity of the story.
