The Diplomat The writers Elvira Lindo, Rosa Montero and Luis Landero have been appointed new members of the Board of Trustees of the Cervantes Institute for a period of six years. The appointment was approved at the Council of Ministers last Tuesday, in which, together with the three writers, the inclusion of the president of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences of Spain, Fernando Méndez-Leite, was also agreed, all of them representing Spanish Literature and Culture. In addition, the director of the Caro y Cuervo Institute, Carmen Elisa Acosta; the rector of the University of Buenos Aires, Ricardo Gelpi; and the rector of the University of Havana, Miriam Nicado, were appointed members, representing Hispanic American Literature and Culture. Likewise, the Mexican writer Juan Villoro will be a member until 2026, to fill the vacancy left by Plácido Arango. The rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Leonardo Lomelí; the rector of the National University of Distance Education (UNED), Ricardo Mairal; and the president of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities, Eva Alcón, were also appointed members of the Board of Trustees, representing the University and the Royal Academies, for a period of six years. Finally, representing other social institutions of a cultural nature or influence, the president of the Efe Agency, Miguel Ángel Oliver, will form part of the Board of Trustees for the same period of time. The Board of Trustees of the Cervantes Institute is made up, in addition to the ex officio members and the general secretary, of twenty-two members representing different groups, appointed by the Government, at the joint proposal of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Education and Culture, for a period of six years, with halves being renewed every three years.
