The King will travel to Ibero-America at least three more times this year

Luis Ayllón His Majesty the King will travel to Ibero-America at least three more times before the end of this year, one of them to participate in the Ibero-American Summit in Cuenca (Ecuador). The most immediate event for the Monarch is the presence at the inauguration of Luis Abinader, of the Modern Revolutionary Party (RM), who was re-elected president of the Dominican Republic in the elections held on May 19. The ceremony will take place on August 16, as is tradition in the Dominican Republic. Don Felipe could not be present in 2020 at Abinader's inauguration for his first term, as it took place in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis, and very few heads of state went to a country that, at that time, was one of the hardest hit by the pandemic. Spain was represented by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya. In April 2021, Abinader made an official visit to Spain, where he was received by the King and met with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. Later, in March 2023, Abinader received the Spanish Monarch on the occasion of his presence at the Ibero-American Summit held in the Caribbean country. Later, the King plans to travel to Mexico to attend the inauguration of Claudia Sheinbaum, who will be the first female president of that country, taking over from Andrés Manuel López Obrador, from her same party, the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), after having won the elections on June 2. Until now, the inaugurations of Mexican presidents took place on December 1, but this time the transition of power has been brought forward by two months, and will be held on October 1 in Mexico City. Don Felipe was already present in 2019 at the inauguration of López Obrador who, on several occasions in successive years, directed his criticism at the Spanish Monarchy, which he asked to apologize for the Conquest. Predictably, the King will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares. Finally, the third appointment already fixed on the King's agenda is his participation in the XXIX Ibero-American Summit, which will be held in Cuenca (Ecuador), on November 14 and 15, and which the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, is also expected to attend. Since December 10, when he attended the inauguration of Javier Milei as President of Argentina, the King has traveled on three other occasions to Ibero-America, to also attend the inaugurations of Bernardo Arévalo, as President of Guatemala (on January 15), of Nayib Bukele, re-elected President of El Salvador (on June 1) and of José Raúl Mulino, new President of Panama (on July 1).
