Spain considers “necessary” to verify tally sheets of Venezuela’s election

The Diplomat The Spanish government considers it necessary to verify the results of the presidential election in Venezuela "in order to respect the will of the Venezuelan people", the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, revealed yesterday in his X account, after holding a conversation on Tuesday with his Mexican counterpart, Alicia Bárcena, in which both agreed on the same criteria. He also said that he is working with the countries of the region to guarantee human rights and prevent any violence in Venezuela. This is Albares' third call to his Ibero-American counterparts to try to coordinate a position in the face of the doubts raised by the official election results and the protests, violence and arrests unleashed in response to the alleged electoral fraud. On Monday, Albares held talks with the Colombian minister, Luis Gilberto Murillo, and the Brazilian minister, Mauro Vieira, with whom he also analysed the situation created after Nicolás Maduro's regime proclaimed itself the winner of the elections without waiting for the official count of the results and against the opposition's calculations.
