The Diplomat The Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel Albares, held a telephone conversation yesterday with his Lebanese counterpart, Abdallah Bou Habib, 'on the escalation of tension in the Middle East affecting Lebanon', according to Albares himself in his X account. In his post, the head of Spanish diplomacy states that the government of Pedro Sánchez is committed "to stability and peace in Lebanon and throughout the region" and underlines his support for the UN peacekeeping mission, UNIFIL, in which Spanish troops are participating. Finally, Albares affirms that "our efforts seek to stop the spread of war" in the region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday recommended on its website that Spanish citizens leave Lebanon in view of the "general context of instability". Israeli retaliatory attacks in Lebanon have so far claimed the lives of around 50 people and injured more than 1,500, according to the Lebanese authorities.
