The Diplomat José María Ridao, who was Spain's ambassador to India and resigned from his post, will be the next consul general in Buenos Aires, The Diplomat learned from diplomatic sources. Ridao was appointed ambassador to New Delhi in July 2021, but at the end of December 2023 he sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, asking to be relieved of his post. Weeks later his resignation was accepted and the Government appointed Juan Antonio March as ambassador to India. Now, Albares is sending Ridao to the Consulate General in Buenos Aires, after a "bombito" was called to assign a series of vacant positions abroad. The Consulate in Buenos Aires was one of those with an asterisk, which means that the minister does not wait to know the opinion of the Diplomatic Career Board to choose the person to occupy that position. The same condition was held by the Consulate General in New York, which will be occupied by Marta de Blas, current Deputy Director General of Personnel; and the second Head in Lisbon, which has been assigned to Antonio Ramos. As The Diplomat reported, Albares offered the position to Ramos, former Chief of Staff of the President of the Constitutional Court, Candido Conde Pumpido, after the diplomat had been waiting since November 2023 for the Russian Government to grant him a visa to take charge of the Consulate General in Moscow, something that never happened.
