The Exhibition Room of the Biblioteca Regional of Madrid “Joaquín Leguina” (Ramírez de Prado, 3) presents on 15 September the exhibition Jano. Half a century of posters and illustration, in which it is investigated about the various artistic modalities that exploded throughout his career Francisco Fernández-Zarza Pérez, better known as Jano.

The name of Jano (Francisco Fernández-Zarza Pérez, Madrid 1922-1992) is closely linked to the design of film posters, but his artistic output went beyond this specialty.

It would be impossible to approach the history of popular image in Spain during the second half of the twentieth century without taking into account his extensive work as a cartoonist. His posters, book covers and illustrations in graphic publications of various types were part of the visual panorama of the Spanish for decades, reflecting the aesthetic changes that were occurring in our country, through the pulse of its sensitivity.

Madrid, his hometown, was the preferred inspiration for his personal work; especially the Madrid of his childhood, of which he left a sympathetic and eloquent testimony in hundreds of drawings.

This exhibition, which shows an important set of pieces, many of them kept in the Regional Library of Madrid and which is accompanied by a program of guided tours and activities, invites you to enter the world of Janus, The Institute’s main objective is to provide a framework for the development of the European Community’s cultural and economic activities.
