Three Spaniards will preside over Commissions in the European Parliament

Three Spaniards have been chosen to preside as many permanent committees in the new European Parliament and another eight will occupy different vice-presidencies.

Thus, the veteran MEP of the European Popular Group Javier Zarzalejos Nieto will be in charge of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, one of the most important in the European Parliament and which in the previous legislature was also headed by the Spanish MEP Juan Fernando López. -Aguilar, from the Socialist Group. In the same commission, Estrella Galán, from Grupo La Izquierda, will be fourth vice president.

For her part, Carmen Crespo, also from the European Popular Group, has been elected president of the Fisheries Commission, while the socialist Lina Gálvez Muñoz will be in charge of the Commission on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality. In the governing body of this same Commission there will be two other Spanish MEPs: The former Podemos minister integrated into the The Left Group, Irene Montero, who will be second vice president; and the MEP of the Popular Group Rosa Estarás, as third vice president.

Dolors Monserrat, spokesperson for the Spanish delegation of the PP in the European Parliament, will be the first vice-president of the Petitions Committee.

In addition, Hana Jalloul, from the Socialist Group, will be the first vice president of the Foreign Affairs Commission; Esther Herranz García, from the Popular Group, will have the same position in the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Commission; and Diana Riba I Giner, from the The Green Group, will occupy the third vice presidency of the Culture and Education Commission.

Finally, Adrián Vázquez, who in the previous term was a Citizens MEP and is now part of the European Popular Group, has been named second vice president of the Constitutional Affairs Committee.
