Yesterday, the Air Force transported fifteen Gazan minors, injured by the Israeli offensive or with health problems, to Madrid from Egypt to be treated in Spanish hospitals. This is the first evacuation of Gazans by a European government.
According to the Ministry of Health, there are thirteen injured minors, one cancer patient and another with a chronic heart disease. The young people travel accompanied by 27 family members.
This operation responds to the commitment reached by the Ministry of Health with the World Health Organization (WHO), announced by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and which has also had the participation and collaboration of the Ministries of Inclusion, Security Social and Migrations; Foreign Affairs, Defense and Interior.
The Gazan minors, the majority with trauma injuries of various kinds, will be treated in hospitals in Euskadi, Asturias, Navarra, Castilla La Mancha and Gómez Ulla in Madrid, dependent on the Ministry of Defense, all under the coordination of the Ministry of Health. Likewise, the family members will be welcomed and accompanied by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration in collaboration with the NGO Accem.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the minors and their families have been transferred by the Aeroevacuation Medical Unit of the Air and Space Army (UMAER) in a medicalized A400M plane that left yesterday from Torrejón air base to Cairo. A team of 19 people traveled on the plane, including doctors, nurses and health technicians from the UMAER, who carried out the first evacuation of Gazans by a European government.
