Spain has sent aid to Bulgaria to combat forest fires, in response to the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union (EU), as reported yesterday by the Ministry of Defense.
These are two amphibious aircraft operated by the 43rd Air and Space Army Group, with support personnel and members of the Military Emergency Unit that left the Matacán base (Salamanca) last Friday bound for Plovdiv (Bulgaria).
The personnel of the 43rd Group and the UME were supported by T-21 aircraft from the 35th Wing of the Air and Space Army. The logistical base for the displaced contingent is at the Plovdiv airport, from where they are already working in the fight against the large forest fire that is ravaging the Bulgarian region of Yambol, in the southeast of the country.
The ‘Canadair’ planes have two tanks that have a capacity of 3,000 liters of water each, which are loaded in just 12 seconds, traveling a distance equivalent to four football fields.
