Their Majesties the King an the Queen, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez; and the leader of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, yesterday expressed their condemnation of the attack perpetrated on Saturday in Pennsylvania against the former president and Republican candidate for the Presidency of the United States, Donald Trump.
Don Felipe sent a message to Trump in which he expressed himself “shocked by the terrible attack” and conveyed, along with Queen Letizia, his “solidarity and relief” upon learning that the injuries suffered were not serious.
The Monarch adds: “The Queen also joins me, Mr. President, in wishing you a complete recovery, as well as that of the injured people, and in sending our condolences to the family of the deceased.”
Furthermore, The King expresses to the people of the United States his “strongest condemnation of any act of violence, even more so when it is directed against the values of democracy.”
For his part, the head of the Executive, Pedro Sánchez, wrote on his social network X account: “I want to convey my strongest condemnation of the attack suffered by Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. Violence and hatred have no place in a democracy”.
Sánchez wished Trump and the rest of the injured a speedy recovery, while conveying his most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
The second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, joined the words of condemnation of the president of the Government, who stressed that “democracy is incompatible with violence.”
Likewise, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, “unequivocally and emphatically” rejected the attack and expressed his confidence that North American society knows how to “reject and encapsulate” this event, as he expressed to the American ambassador, Julissa Reynoso in a conversation.
Regarding that conversation, he indicated that he saw the ambassador confident in the solidity of American democracy. “The ambassador was calm and certainly shocked by this fact, as we all are.” And after insisting that “violence has no place in politics” and stressed that “democracy is decided with votes, not with violence.”
The opposition parties in Spain also expressed their condemnation. Thus, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in addition to expressing his rejection of the attack, warned: “Feeding hatred towards those who think differently leads to situations like the one experienced a few hours ago in the US.”
The popular leader, who wished Trump a speedy recovery, claimed “moderation” and regretted that “there are those who prefer to shoot rather than vote to defend his ideology.”
For his part, the leader of Vox, who was the first to react to the attack on the social network X, expressed his satisfaction that Trump survived the assassination attempt and urged “to stop the globalist left that is spreading hatred, ruin and war”.
