The individual locations and the new subscriptions of this 30th Cycle of Great Performers of the Fundación Scherzo are already on sale. A season full of surprises and novelties. In addition, this year’s subscription to the Cycle of Great Performers will offer a whole series of activities parallel to the cycle, from talks and conferences with artists to masterclasses, tickets to events in which the Foundation collaborates, discounts in partner entities, etc.
The 24/25 season of the Fundación Scherzo will begin on September 10 with the winner of the XVI edition of the International Piano Competition Frédéric Chopin, Yulianna Avdeeva, who will debut in the Cycle of Great Performers with a program dedicated to the great romantic pianism, with the music of Chopin and Liszt.
October 16 will be the turn of Ivo Pogorelich, indispensable figure of the contemporary piano and whose recordings of Ravel, Chopin and Prokofiev are already in the collective memory of music lovers and performers.
One of the great novelties of the new season of Scherzo will be the presence of symphonic orchestras and for this, on October 21 they count on the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, which will present, together with its titular director, Tomàs Grau, a recital dedicated to Mozart’s violin concertos, with the nickname “best modern violinist”, Maksim Venguérov as soloist.
The second novelty is that this 30th cycle is dedicated to the subscriber. That is why the Foundation wants to reclaim his figure. This cycle will offer an exclusive and free concert for these subscribers, on November 12. Alexandre Kantorow will offer in the Chamber Room of the Auditorio Nacional de Música a recital with works by Liszt, Rachmaninov, Bartók and Bach.
The 2025 will begin with another of the big names that will debut in this cycle, the British pianist Stephen Hough, who has made a recital of mysteries and emotions with works well known by the public of Chopin, and with short and beautiful pieces by the French composer Cécile Louise Stéphanie Chaminade.
Nor could the favorite artist of the Fundación Scherzo and flagship of the programming, Grigory Sokolov, who returns on February 24 to this new edition. The month of March will begin with the return of another of the great muses of the piano, Maria João Pires, accompanied by Ignasi Cambra, who will offer a recital four hands on March 2.
After many attempts, finally, in 2025 Rudolph Buchbinder will debut in the Cycle of Great Performers. One of the most legendary pianists of our time, epitome and paradigm as far as Beethoven’s music is concerned, will perform on March 25 to offer us his particular tribute to the master of Bonn.
The 20th of April will be the turn of Seong-Jin Cho, winner in 2015 of the Frédéric-Chopin International Piano Competition and who, at only 28 years old, will perform for the third time in this cycle with a repertoire that includes works by Liszt, Beethoven, Bartòk and Brahms. The piano diva, Khatia Buniatishvili, could not miss this special edition and on 17 May you can taste his most exacerbated virtuosity. Endowed with a rocker energy and a glamorous personality, this impressive ambassador of the Maison Cartier is released on stage from the traditional stereotypes of the classical musician.
The season will end with the recital of the Argentine pianist Nelson Goerner on June 7, with a concert around the music of Beethoven, Rachmaninov, Strauss and Schumann.
