The former Minister of Equality and Podemos MEP, Irene Montero, has been appointed vice president of the parliamentary group The Left, which was officially established this Wednesday in the European Parliament and will have 48 seats after the incorporation of the 5 Star Movement (M5S) from Italy.

Irene Montero, who is making her debut in the European Parliament, was named as one of the four vice-presidents of the group, along with the Greek Kostas Arvanitis, the Swedish Hanna Gedin and the Belgian Marc Botenga. In the same session, Manon Aubry, from the French party La France Insoumise, and Martin Schirdewan, from the German party Die Linke, were re-elected as co-presidents. Maj Aslett-Rydbjerg of Denmark was appointed secretary general.
