Ainhoa Fábrega, appointed new director general of Europe

Luis Ayllón The diplomat Ainhoa Fábrega Larrucea was appointed this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers as the new Director General for Western, Central and Southeast Europe, replacing Raquel Gómez-Cambronero. Gómez-Cambronero has been in charge of the Directorate General that deals with bilateral relations with the countries of the European Union and most of the candidates for EU membership since August 2021, which is why she has been in close contact with a large number of ambassadors accredited in Madrid. Ainhoa Fábrega entered the diplomatic service in 2006 and for the past five years has been Counsellor for Humanitarian Affairs at the Permanent Representation of Spain to the UN in Geneva. Previously, she was Deputy Assistant Director-General of the United Nations and Technical Adviser in the Sub-Directorate General for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, in addition to having been Director of Programming at Casa África. Abroad, she has held the second post at the Spanish Embassy in Albania (2011-2014) and was deputy consul in Santo Domingo (2014-2016).
