Luis Ayllón The current Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry, Luis Cuesta, will finally be the next ambassador of Spain in Sweden, once the Swedish authorities grant the agreement requested by the Spanish Government, as The Diplomat learned from reliable sources. Cuesta has been the head of the Spanish Diplomatic Service since he was chosen for the position in July 2021 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, immediately after taking office. Throughout these three years, he has been one of his closest collaborators in everything related to the functioning of the Ministry and the destinations of diplomats. His name as a possible ambassador in Stockholm was advanced by The Objective last February, after the appointment of the person who was then in charge of the Embassy, Cristina Latorre, as ambassador in Turkey. However, until recently the request for approval from the Swedish Government has not been made. Luis Manuel Cuesta Civis has been a diplomat since 1993 and throughout his professional career he has been ambassador to Tanzania and 'number two' of the permanent representation of Spain before the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), based in Vienna . Furthermore, between 2007 and 2011, he was Secretary General of Defense Policy (Segenpol) in the Ministry of Defense. He has also been stationed in Colombia and Italy. Cuesta is the only member of the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who has remained in office since Albares was confirmed as a minister in the Government formed by Pedro Sánchez last November.
