The Diplomat
Yesterday, King Felipe VI received the Board of Trustees of the Spain China Council Foundation at the La Zarzuela Palace on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the launch of this institution. The meeting was attended, among others, by the president of the Spain China Council Foundation, Francisco J. Riberas; the director of the Instituto Cervantes, Luis García Montero; and the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Luis Manuel Cuesta Civís.
The Spain China Council Foundation, established in 2004, is the main Spanish public diplomacy institution dedicated to the Asian giant. Promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its Board of Trustees brings together companies, public institutions and universities with a presence in China.
During the meeting, the King congratulated the Foundation for its two decades of work and highlighted the importance of investing in relations with China at a time of great geopolitical complexity. For his part, Riberas stated that “the relationship with China is an essential vector of Spanish foreign policy, and the Foundation is as committed as the first day to contributing our grain of sand to make it a fruitful relationship with future prospects.”
