The Maltese ambassador to Spain, Daniel Azzopardi, will leave his position this summer to take charge of his country’s Embassy in Italy, according to diplomatic sources.

Azzopardi arrived in Madrid in August 2020, and throughout the four years that he has spent in our country he has developed intense activity. Among other aspects, in 2022, he announced the opening of the Maltese Way, as the Jacobean Route, and a year later he highlighted the increase in air interconnections between Malta and Spain, which has been a great benefit for tourism in both directions.

Before joining his position in Spain, Daniel Azzopardi was his country’s permanent representative to the European Union between 2018 and 2020 and previously headed the Malta Water and Energy Agency. He will now move to Rome, which is one of the most relevant positions for Maltese diplomacy.
