The Minister of Economy, Commerce and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, begins a visit to Ukraine today, in which he will be accompanied by representatives of some 25 Spanish companies interested in the reconstruction process of that country, which has been seriously damaged by the invasion of Russia.
The official website of the Ministry of Economy indicates that Cuerpo will travel late this afternoon to Kiyv, where tomorrow, Wednesday, he plans to hold meetings with the Minister of Infrastructure, Oleksander Kubrakov; and with the First Deputy Minister and Minister of Economic Development, Yulia Svyrydenko.
The minister’s agenda also includes participation on that same day in the fourth meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Industrial Cooperation. The previous one was held last year and had the participation of the then Secretary of State for Commerce, Xiana Méndez, but this will be the first time that it is chaired by the minister.
Furthermore, on Thursday, first thing now, Carlos Cuerpo will have a working breakfast with a delegation of Spanish businessmen who are traveling to Kiyv to hold a two-day meeting with Ukrainian colleagues, which has been organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Spain.
Economic sources indicated that some 25 Spanish companies will participate in this event, mainly from the infrastructure, engineering and agri-food sectors, among others, some of them from the relevance of Acciona, Adif or CAF.
The objective of both the minister’s visit and the business meeting is to analyze with the Ukrainian authorities and economic officials the possibilities of participating in the country’s reconstruction process. It would be about studying the way in which Spanish companies can take advantage of the decisions adopted within the framework of the third International Conference for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, held a couple of weeks ago in Berlin, and the funds that will be released by the union for this process. European and international financial institutions.
