The Swedish Ambassador, Teppo Tauriainen, invited last Tuesday to the traditional Midsommar Party at the Embassy’s residence. During the evening, the guests could discover the Swedish culture through its music and gastronomy in a relaxed and summery atmosphere.
About 300 guests came to celebrate the Mindsommar Party, who had to take shelter inside the diplomatic residence due to the heavy downpour of rain that fell just during the celebration.
Ambassador Teppo Tauriainen had to give his impromptu speech standing on a table! And he pointed out to the admiration of the audience, “Midsommar is one of the most important holidays of the year in Sweden (like San Juan in Spain), which is always celebrated on the third Friday of June in connection with the solstice. In Sweden we celebrate the beginning of summer and the holiday period. We celebrate with family and friends with food and drinks, whenever possible outdoors.
This Midsommar celebration was one of the last events in Spain for the Swedish ambassador before he returns to Sweden. There are only a few weeks left. “Five years have gone by very quickly, he said, but it has been a wonderful experience. From the beginning, I have felt at home in Spain and Madrid”.
The Ambassador thanked the Embassy team and the representatives of the rest of Team Sweden Spain for their excellent cooperation during these five years. “Together, he noted, we have contributed to promoting Swedish interests in Spain and bilateral relations between our countries.”
The evening also featured music from rising star Tatiana de la Luz, who performed some Swedish songs with a modern-day Spanish twist.
