Thanks to The Japan Foundation and with the collaboration of the Embassy of Japan, Mitsubishi Electric and Nippon Gas, the Veranos de la Villa will have Japan as Guest Country in its 2024 edition.

This festival is organised by the Madrid City Council’s Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport and designed to bring the best cultural offerings to numerous venues in the city throughout the summer.

The activities related to the art and culture of Japan will begin on 23 July and will run until the end of Veranos de la Villa 2024 on 25 August.

The Japan Foundation is co-organising with Veranos de la Villa three activities related to the performing and visual arts of Japan: the performances of Hiroaki Umeda – Somatic Field Project presenting the pieces assimilating and Moving State 1 at the Teatro del Centro Cultural Conde Duque on 24 and 25 July; the show Arte, Pasión y Solera by the company ARTE Y SOLERA together with the kabuki actor Kazutaro Nakamura on 14 and 15 August at the Patio Central del Centro Cultural Conde Duque; and an artistic installation by the collective 目[mé], who will use the city of Madrid as the backdrop for their work in a surprise project that can be discovered between 12 and 18 August in different districts.

The programme related to Japan as Guest Country is completed with a series of exhibitions that can be visited at the Espacio Cultural Serrería Belga from 23 July, which will cover five centuries of Japanese visual culture. Exhibitions ranging from screens and fans from the 16th century to manga and Japanese video games that have conquered the visual culture of the 21st century.
